The Duo: A Three-Person Magic Show - EDINBURGH FRINGE 2026

The Duo: A Three-Person Magic Show is exactly the kind of show you hope to stumble across at the Edinburgh Fringe. It is incredibly funny, brilliantly put together and, at points, genuinely unbelievable.
Despite what the name suggests, there are three people on stage. Jacob Greenwald and Dan Winter are The Duo, while Charlie Phillips is their roommate who has somehow found himself dragged into the act. It is a simple set-up, but one that gives the show its own identity from the minute the three of them appear.
The comedy comes largely from their relationship with one another. Their timing is excellent, and the whole thing feels wonderfully chaotic while clearly being incredibly well rehearsed underneath it all.
There is some very impressive magic in this show. Cards disappear and turn up in other places, predictions prove frighteningly accurate and information is revealed that you cannot possibly understand how they have managed to get and it isn’t just one standout trick carrying the rest of the hour the standard remains ridiculously high throughout. Just as you think you have seen the big trick of the show, they do something else that somehow tops it.
One of the best things about The Duo is that they don’t spend forever building everything up. There aren’t endless dramatic pauses or attempts to convince you how impossible something is before it happens. The tricks are strong enough that they don’t need any of that.
They happen, the reveal lands and the reaction from the audience is immediate.
There were several moments where the entire room seemed to react at exactly the same time, followed almost immediately by everyone trying to work out what they had just seen. Some of it is honestly baffling.
The audience are involved throughout, but it never becomes one of those shows where you spend half the time terrified of being picked. Greenwald, Winter and Phillips are excellent with the people they bring into the performance, getting plenty of laughs from the interactions without making anyone the butt of the joke.
It also helps enormously that all three are just really likeable performers. There is no attempt to take themselves too seriously and, despite how technically impressive much of the show is, they never lose the sense that everyone is there to have a good time. The result is an hour that feels relaxed, spontaneous and completely ridiculous in the best possible way.
By the end, I had laughed far more than I expected to at a magic show and had absolutely no explanation for anything I had watched other than - MAGIC MUST BE REAL!
Funny, slick and genuinely astonishing, The Duo: A Three-Person Magic Show is definitely a STAND OUT at this years Fringe.
