DISENCHANTED! – Edinburgh Fringe 2026

As an unashamed Disney adult, DISENCHANTED! was always going to be right down my street.

The premise sees the princesses we all know and love ditch the happily-ever-after version of events and finally have their say on how their stories have been told. What follows is a very funny, slightly outrageous musical that has a lot of fun with characters we all think we know.

The cast are fantastic across the board, bringing bags of personality to each of the princesses while also delivering some impressive vocals.

Roshaan Saulnier was a particular highlight for me, taking on the roles of both Sleeping Beauty and Princess Badroulbadour. She is absolutely hilarious as Sleeping Beauty, with brilliant comic timing and a performance that had me laughing every time she appeared.

She then returns as Princess Badroulbadour and shows a completely different side to what she can do. Saulnier has a fantastic voice and a great stage presence, and she was easily one of the performers I found myself looking forward to seeing again.

But this is very much an ensemble piece, and the talent throughout the cast is impressive.

Vocally, DISENCHANTED! is much stronger than you might expect from a show that is largely there to make you laugh. There are some brilliant voices on that stage, and the cast really get the chance to show them off.

The songs themselves are one of the best parts of the production.

They are clever, funny and, at times, completely ridiculous. The show takes plenty of shots at the original princess stories, from their relationships with their princes to the way their bodies and personalities have been portrayed, and there are some great one-liners along the way.

There is plenty here for musical theatre fans, but I think anyone who grew up loving Disney will get that little bit extra from it. So many of the jokes rely on knowing these characters and their stories, and there is something very funny about watching them finally point out just how bizarre some of those stories actually are.

It is also refreshing that the production doesn't feel the need to overcomplicate itself. With great songs, brilliant vocals and plenty of laughs, DISENCHANTED! is a thoroughly entertaining production from start to finish.

For any Disney adult, it is a very enjoyable way to spend 80 minutes at the Fringe.
